The Lasergraphics Mark III records digital images onto 35mm or 120mm film.

Film Types: The Knight Visual Resources Facility uses and recommends the following films.

If you have a special need to use a particular film type, please speak to a staff member before using the slide printer. Using unsupported films may cause incorrect color casting in the film output.

File Formats: The system can record from a wide variety of image formats, including TIFF's, JPEG's, Photoshop files (PSD's), Powerpoint presentations, and PDF's.

Media: At this time, we only accept files on CD's that can be read on a Microsoft Windows® machine. Files should be organized in a single directory, and should be on a single disc.

Apple® Compatability: The slide printer is attached to a Windows PC. Although it can read most files created on an Apple computer, there are some potential snags that can greatly slow the processing of your order:

  • Materials Included: Film and processing are included in the base price. Customers may not use their own film or processing.
  • Materials Optional: Film and processing are included in the base price. Customers who choose to provide their own film and/or developing will be credited.
  • Materials Additional: Film and processing are NOT included in the base price, but may be purchased from the slide library at additional charge.
  • Full Rolls Only: The order must fill up one or more rolls completely (34 images). Images beyond what will fit on a roll will be charged at the per image rate, and are subject to longer turn around times.

Quality: The output quality is excellent, and will almost always be limited by the quality of your source material. Below are recommendations that will guide you in producing reasonable quality presentation images:

Description Resolution File Size
Presentation Quality TIFF 1024x768 2.2 megabytes or more
Presentation Quality JPEG Varies 1 megabyte or more
Normal Quality Mode* 4096x3362 39.4 megabytes
High Quality Mode* 8192x6724 157.6 megabytes

* These rows describe the hardware resolution of the Mark III in its normal and high quality modes. The file sizes given refer to the file size of an uncompressed color TIFF at the print resolution. NOTE: Resizing TIFF's and JPEG's in Photoshop is not necessary and will not increase the quality of your film output; rendering your vector or 3d content at 8192x6724, and acquiring high-resolution scans or digital camera shots will.
